District in Bloom
Print magazine for student newspaper
In its first magazine since 2012, SCAD’s student newspaper, District, undertook the task of creating a 72-page magazine. Admittedly, this team was relatively unaware of the challenges ahead. That being said, a strong group of multidisciplinary designers banded together and learned along the way to create a publication worthy of the National Society of Collegiate Journalists’ first place award for General Interest Magazine Overall Excellence.
During the 15-week process as acting editor-in-chief and creative director, tasks were delegated to fellow editing staff members to create and gather content. This was then organized and directed to the graphic team for layout. In weekly meetings with the graphic team, creative direction, critiques, and progress was discussed. Over the course of 15 weeks, and working in tandem with both editing staff and graphic team members, District in Bloom became an eye-catching, layered magazine filled with content about students, professors, COVID-19 and Savannah, Georgia.
